Is Memory Foam All It's Cracked Up To Be?

Memory foam is a fairly new invention; our grandparents, and more than likely our parents, never had the luxury of memory foam growing up. However, we do have the luxury, and it’s everywhere we look these days. That being said, it’s worth knowing whether memory foam is all it’s cracked up to be. Do you really need to invest in a memory foam mattress, or can you do without? Let’s explore…

Pros Of Memory Foam
Of course there are many pros of memory foam, or it wouldn’t be such a popular choice. Here are some of the main ones.

  • Relieve your pressure points
The memory foam mattress was made specifically for people who wanted relief on their pressure points. For those who ache or have jobs where they must do heavy lifting, sleeping on a mattress that relieves these points can be great.

  • Back and joint support
We all need the right amount of back and joint support to wake up feeling great. Memory foam is designed for this.

  • May help you to keep a better body temperature
Some memory foam mattresses claim to help people keep the perfect body temperature as they sleep.

  • Limits motion transfer
If you’re sleeping with a partner, it’s easy to wake them up when you roll over or move in the night. However, memory foam limits this, so you can move without waking up your loved one.

  • Durability
One of the biggest benefits of memory foam is that it is durable. Usually, they will last for years. However, you’ll want to check different brands against one another using something like so you can be sure you won’t have to splash out again in the next few years. Your mattress should last a long time!

  • Large selection
There are many brands to choose from!

Cons Of Memory Foam
Now, let’s take a look at the cons of memory foam.

  • They can be too warm
Although some claim to keep you just the right temperature, some can be too warm. If you get hot as you sleep, it may not be a good choice for you.

  • Strong smells for those sensitive to odor
As this type of mattress has been treated using chemicals, some report a strong smell when they first use the mattress. This may not be great for those sensitive to odor (although it will usually disappear).

  • Lower quality foams won’t last
If you want to save a quick buck, it’s worth noting that lower quality foams won’t last as long. You need to know which ones are best, which is all the more reason to compare and read reviews.

Memory foam mattresses are great, but you definitely need to spend time comparing the different kinds out there. They are perfect for those who want more support, but only if you are willing to invest in a quality one. Low quality memory foam mattresses can be pointless, and will not stand the test of time.
