A moving and meaningful story for the whole family, My Dog the Champion (SRP $24.98) begins when Madison (Burge), aspoiled city teen, learns that her mother is being deployed to Afghanistan. She is suddenly forced to uproot to the country and live on her grandfather Billy’s (Henriksen) cattle ranch – in the middle of nowhere. Facing the hardships of farm life and her feelings of loneliness, she befriends Scout, the farm’s old and “useless” cattle dog. The new companions quickly form a special bond. And when the family farm becomes threatened, Madison, with some help from Eli (Linley), a teenage dog trainer, trains Scout to be an agility champion and together they compete with the hope of saving their home. Side by side, the determined duo proves the heart of a champion never dies.
We love family movie night in our house. I am always on the look out for great movies that we can watch together and enjoy as a family. Family time is pretty important to us. I got My Dog Champion to review, and my boys could not wait to watch this. They had seen a few of the commercials and had seen the DVD in Walmart. This was a surprise for them and they loved it. We did a pizza night and bought some pop corn and sat down to enjoy the movie. This was really a great feel good movie. They loved Scout! We used to live out in the country a bit and they had friends that had farms so they loved the setting of the movie too. They actually sat through the whole movie, which is a feat in itself, they are 6 and 8 and tend to distract easily lol. The story line is very cute and enjoyable for any age. They have watched this several times on their own also. We all rate this movie a big 5/5!
