Sticky Icky Booger Bugs, by Sherry Frith, is the tale of a boy’s battle with cystic fibrosis as he attempts to avoid the hospital. Kory is just like any other kid. He loves recess, playing soccer, and exploring his neighborhood with his best friend. With every puff, cough, and sneeze, Kory keeps the sticky icky booger bugs away so he can have fun every day! Sticky Icky Booger Bugs is a picture book, illustrated by Caroll Newell Walter, for children ages 0 – 7.
Me and my boys loved this book. We sat and read it together several times. We have always taught our boys that just because people are different doesn’t mean you treat them any differently. My 8 year old is on the autism spectrum and my 6 year old has some sensory integration issues. They both have had some issues with people not understanding them sometimes. I always try to turn that around into a lesson for them and teach them how to have empathy and understanding towards others. This was a sweet and easy to grasp story about Kory, a little boy with Cystic Fibrosis, and how he goes about his days having fun with his friends. The story is fun and educational at the same time, without being overwhelming. Every school age child and classroom should have a copy of this book. A big 5/5 from us!
