Choices by Liz Schulte

Choices (The Guardian Trilogy)

Hearts break. Loved ones are lost. Life keeps moving. Olivia Martin’s afterlife was more dangerous and confusing than her life ever was. She thought she was ready to come back, to forget about Holden and to let go of the rage consuming her. Fulfilling her destiny as a guardian was all that mattered—the past could stay hidden in the crevices of her mind. However, when guardians are murdered and the evidence points towards jinn, she has to do something. To save anyone’s future, Olivia will have to confront the one person from her past she is terrified to see. Holden waited for Olivia with the hope he would see her one more time. But when she didn’t return, he found salvation in darkness. The black and twisted road made it easier to forget what he lost than to live with the memory of what he had. An unexpected promotion shoves him into a world of intoxicating power and influence. Holden will have to choose between his new life and the woman he thought was gone forever. From the ashes of Secrets, Choices are born that will change everything. Indian Maidens Bust Loose

Summary- East and West may meet, but sometimes they shouldn't. That's what Nisha Desai's conservative Hindu family thinks when a black-sheep American aunt and her trouble-magnet teenage daughters come to visit them in India. The guests are seen as an invading force, equipped with weapons of mass corruption.

But to Nisha, the rich aunt looks like a one-woman foreign aid program and a way to escape the horrible suitors her father keeps foisting on her. She makes every effort to charm the visitors. This is not an easy task, for the aunt is a New Age space case, and the cousins’ appetite for disasters threatens to level the city of Ahmedabad. In short order, the demented cousins instigate an elopement, a public protest, and a riot that gets Nisha thrown in jail.

It's only when Nisha's father adopts a pet cow and convinces half the city it's the reincarnation of a Hindu deity that the two families are united in a common goal: to bilk thousands. The result is Madison Avenue's idea of a religious experience, which is not a controllable situation.

My Rating-

My Review- This was a hilarious and insightful look into another cultures traditions. You immediately fall in love with the two sisters and their funny and sardonic way of dealing with cultural and family traditions. The story moves at a pretty quick pace but not so fast you get lost. It's a funny and unexpected roller coaster ride through the book and I'm glad I took the time to read it.

Desert Drop

Desert Drop
by
Rex Kusler

Summary- Private investigator and former homicide detective Alice James was just six months old when her father, Leon Stapper, abandoned his family. Forty years later, Alice has convinced herself she’s over it—until her half sister, Corina, calls her up and wants to meet. But before Alice and Corina can get acquainted, everything goes terribly, tragically wrong. Determined to uncover the truth behind what happened to her sister, Alice calls in reinforcements: Jim Snow, her partner in Las Vegas’s James & James Detective Agency who knows a thing or two about family drama. Their investigation takes them from Sin City to Silicon Valley, where Alice and Corina’s father reigns as a high-tech CEO. As Alice and Jim dig for clues, they find that Leon’s best friend and attorney Ron Bale took a very personal interest in Corina. Not to mention the fact that he used to be married to Leon’s ex-wife—until she vanished without a trace. Alice is convinced that if she and Jim can uncover the truth about the missing wife, they will discover what happened to Corina. But first, they will need a little help from some old friends.

My Rating-

My Summary- I visited Vegas several years ago and fell in love. This book grabbed my attention and kept it. Great characters with real depth crawled into my heart and made a home. I love mysteries too so this book had two things in its favor before I even cracked the cover. A  fast paced plot and enough action without gory violence to detract from the story made this a very enjoyable read. This is part of Rex Kusler's Las Vegas Mystery series and I would like to read more of these characters for sure.

Quarter Life Crisis

Quarter Life Crisis
by
Diana-Ashley Krach

Summary- Friends may be forever, but time will always change friendships. There comes a point in everyone's life, usually during their mid-twenties, when they tend to hit a wall. Where are we going with our future? Why can't we stay as close to our friends as we once were? They feel as though they've hit a rut. A group of friends will soon realize that everyone goes through their own Quarter Life Crisis

My Rating-

My Review- A great fresh new story about women, friendships and relationships. A tight group of friends goes on a camping trip together to reconnect. I was drawn into each of the women's stories and their feelings. I laughed at some of the interactions and sad at some others. Relationships change over the years for these women but they still manage to come back together when it counts. I really liked this story and would recommend it to any fan of chick lit.

Extranormal Review

Summary- Mira Johns is pretty much like any other teenage girl. Except that she knows how to harness electro-magnetic energy to communicate without words. And she's really, really far from home. Her assignment as an emissary to Earth sounds fairly simple: blend in, observe, and stay away from the planet’s primitive males. But after she finds one mysterious boy too irresistible for stupid rules, she realizes the real reason she's supposed to keep her distance: mates from her world can die if separated. But a series of serious accidents make it clear that someone wants to force her return. Mira decides her only hope is to uncover the truth to why she, the most mediocre of candidates, was actually chosen for this assignment—before the agency discovers her secret and sends her back home.

My Rating-

My Review- The first word that came to my mind when I started reading this story was charming. The main character Mira seems like any other "normal" teenager even though she's not. She's from another planet that's very similar but much more advanced than earth as we know it. She's not supposed to have any contact with earth males but can't seem to fight the attraction to a sweet and caring earth boy named Jesse. Then there's the creepy Everett. Outwardly popular and has everyone fawning all over him except for Mira who is certain there is something not right about him. Any reader who struggled in high school will relate to Mira and how she endeavors to fit in and belong. The love story is so endearing and it's mixed in with enough adventure and science fiction to keep any reader enthralled.

Hope's Bears Giveaway

Hope's Bears was created by the wife of one of our friends. She creates bears and monkeys from all types of fabric as well as for many occasions. One of my favorite reasons she has started is for PCOS and infertility in women. It seems that there are so many ladies having problems becoming pregnant that B and I know, I wanted to know more about it and how we could help. First thing we wanted to know more about PCOS and what it really is. Unfortunately, we have never heard of it! Polycystic ovary syndrome is a condition in which there is an imbalance of a woman's female sex hormones. This hormone imbalance may cause changes in the menstrual cycle, skin changes, small cysts in the ovaries, trouble getting pregnant, and other problems.

Hope's Bears has many fabric swatches for your to choose from, just take a peek at her FB album! Featured are a few she has recently created for customers. You can either get one that can sit/stand as featured or one that is softer and lays. I know Bells, who is 2, would absolutely love these and name it Trista - "Mommy Trista needs me!" As B and I get older and our friends are starting to try to have babies, infertility continuously keeps popping up as a barrier- we honestly know more than 10 families! Because we have a blog and have noticed many ladies going through this, we wanted to give Hope's Bears a chance to bring everyone together. Join us in liking Hope's Bears and giving encouragement to others facing the same situation. When we share the journey together it makes it a big easier to know we will have friends to help us! As a bonus, the bears and monkeys she creates are really cute and totally customizable! Not only does she create the ones mentioned, but she has created bears for her sister-in-laws wedding and for the troops! Enter below to win your own!
